What Topics Will Be Covered?
Recruiting and retaining our workforce, reconciling and building positive relations with First Nations, and adapting to the ongoing climate change crisis are the main factors driving change in our BC silviculture and forestry sector. Like all change it comes with surprises, threats, and opportunities. This change is also coming at us faster than we think. At this year’s conference, our program with its presenters, workshops, and forums will try to make sense of what that last half decade—and this year especially—means for our future as a sector and a province. What is our exposure when it comes to a tight labour market? How can our sector do a better job working with Indigenous Peoples? How much is a warming planet a threat to our sector? How much of it is an opportunity? What is the so-called restoration economy and where do we fit in? What’s happening with our wood products sector that we are part of? The WFCA Conference may not be the biggest forestry conference in the province. Nevertheless, it always succeeds in concentrating our imaginations with its informal atmosphere and original presentations.
